Making it easier to identify professional taxi and private hire drivers
The national register for professional taxi and private hire drivers recognises drivers’ high levels of professionalism and has been developed to give licensing authorities one central system to access accurate and timely information about drivers’ skills.
How will it benefit you?
Save time and money
The online system and unique reference number given to registered drivers means you can access their information more efficiently, meaning you can divert valuable resources to other areas.
Well-trained drivers
Drivers on the register will have completed one of the two qualifications that operators recognise as being the best preparation for their role:
-
NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving
-
Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver
To ensure these qualifications are delivered to a high standard, they must be gained through an accredited college or training provider .
If they have received their qualification more than three years ago, drivers must show that they have been keeping their skills up to date by carrying out People 1st Continual Professional Development (CPD) training. The training is a one-day course that covers areas such disability awareness, personal safety and legislation. At the end of each three year period, drivers will also need to do this to remain on the register.
Easy to recognise professional drivers
Registered drivers will receive a professional driver badge and a certificate so they can show their status as professionals to customers, operators and local authorities.
Peace of mind for customers
Only professional drivers can register, meaning members of the public can feel safe in the knowledge that their driver has received the best training delivered by an industry recognised college or training provider.
